Get Your Krewe Ready for the Marathon

Take time to think about the logistics of Marathon day, it will reduce last minute stress.  You have been training for 6 months and you want this day to go smooth.  Things you need to plan and think about are:  marathon day parking, where & how many times you want your family on the route, what side of the road should family stand on, what back-up fuel do you want your family to hand you.  Seeing your family and friends on the route will give you something to look forward to and will help you get through the rough spots.

Get Your Krewe Ready

1.  Parking
Do you want your family to drop you off at the George B. Convention Center?
Do you want your family come into the Convention Center with you before the race?

2.  Where and how many times do you want to see your Krewe?
Mile 8.5 Starbucks (restrooms & coffee), Mile 16 Starbucks, Mile 22

3.  What side of the road is your family going to stand on?

You will have move to that side and run to them

4.  Balloons, Signs, etc.

If your family has a balloon it is easier for you to see them.

5.  What back-up fuels do you want them to hand you?

You should carry your gels, just in case you miss them.  But they can hand you
candy, oranges, extra Accel Gel, or small cold bottle of gatorade.

6.  Prepare your family that you will look pretty beat up after mile 22.
When your family sees you mile 8 and mile 16 you will still look happy and great.  But once you get
into the last 6 miles you will start to look tired.

7.  After you finish you will go into the Convention Center and recover.
Let your family know this might take sometime and don't be worried.

8.  Decide where to meet your family.
Decide what letter to meet you family under.  Use the Letter "G" for Go Run, so you can
visit with other Go Run Members!

9.  Have your family sign-up for the Chervron Marathon phone alerts,
so they will know where you are on the course.

10.  For friends and family who can not make it in person, they can
log on the Chevron Marathon website and track you.
Usually the Chevron Houston Marathon will have live video stream, so your family can watch you cross
               the finish line.
